Crossmember & Skidplate Installation Instructions

Thank you for purchasing a BudBuilt Crossmember for your Toyota!

We appreciate your business and thank you for your support. These instructions are to help you with the installation of the crossmember. If you have problems or questions, please feel free to call at 828-433-1489 from 8am to 10pm, eastern time zone or email to bud@budbuilt.com. Thank you! Bud and the crew!

Painting tips: Wipe down with solvent( lacquer thinner or acetone work best) and use your favorite paint. We find that a rust inhibiting paint and primer work best, for the long term, especially in the rust belt areas of the world.

SAFETY FIRST! you will need to jack up the transmission of your truck and support it carefully. Make sure your truck is in gear, the parking brake set, and on level ground before working under it. Just jack it up enough to hold it and not raise the truck any.

Remove the 12 bolts that hold your existing crossmember to the truck. These consist of 4 12 mm head bolts that hold the crossmember to the transmission mount in the middle of the crossmember. These are hidden up inside the crossmember. Then, there are 4 17mm head bolts on each side, holding the crossmember to the frame for a total of 8.

Be careful to not get hit by the crossmember as it may fall now. Pull it off and set aside.

If you do not already have a low profile drain plug in your transfer case, you should install it now. Remove the old one and quickly swap the new one in, leaking as little as possible of the fluid. The new one takes a 10mm Allen wrench to install but in a pinch, Vice Grips will do...

To install your new BudBuilt Crossmember, hold it up in place and install one of the 17mm head bolts in one of the outer frame rails. Then, attach 4 New black flat head center bolts to the tranny mount, using the Allen wrench provided. (If you have a dual transfer case model, there are 8 of these screws) Then install another 17mm bolt in the opposite side frame rail. This may take a bit of prying or twisting. Once this has been installed, install loosely the other 6 17mm head bolts in the frame rails. Once all 8 are installed, tighten them all down to the factory specs.

Now it is time to install your BudBuilt skidplate. Place it up into position and install one of the flat head screws. With it held up by the screw, install the rest of them loosely. Once all in, tighten them down.

Now, you can lower the jack and get out and admire your work!

And of course the best part... Go out, find a trail and try to scratch that new paint job. But, based on experience, good luck trying to get caught on it! :)
